With Congress having reauthorized the Elementary and Secondary Education Act earlier this year, there’s been a lot of celebration from some camps and hand wringing from others over the future of teacher evaluation. There is a perception that life under “ESSA” will mean that states will no longer embrace the commitments they only recently made to introduce more meaningful teacher evaluation systems.

This past October, Hope Street Fellow and AAE-PACE Member Ms. Jill Cullis set out to help improve teacher prep from coast-to-coast by collaborating with teachers and national leaders such as the Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the U.S. Department of Education.

Students frequently find themselves asking why they have to write yet another essay, and educators often forget to remind them about how essential essay writing is to self-development and future success. As a result, they often lose sight of the purpose for the assignment and don’t dedicate enough time to the project. This can be crippling to a new college student.
