PACE Sponsors Local Educators and Students to Participate in Science Explorers at University of Colo
The Professional Association of Colorado Educators (PACE), the state’s only non-union teachers association, is pleased to announce that 22 teams, each composed of one teacher and five students, have been sponsored by PACE to participate in Science Explorers at the University of Colorado at Boulder. This unique professional development program is a hands-on science workshop focused on wind power, energy efficiency and passive solar energy. PACE’s contribution of $4,950 will cover the full fee for 22 teams.“As a professional association, PACE is committed to providing professional development opportunities for Colorado educators,” stated Dr. Kris Enright, PACE Executive Director. “Science Explorers is an effective and innovative way to engage both teachers and their students.”
Teachers and students in grades five through eight work side-by-side, which gives teachers the opportunity to observe how students respond to the activities and allows students to develop their own knowledge and leadership skills. The teachers receive a full curriculum and a teaching kit to bring back to their school to recreate the lessons with their students.
There are two workshops left that the sponsored teams will be attending:
May 5, 2010- UMC University of Colorado, Boulder
May 11, Alton Middle School, Longmont
PACE provides professional development opportunities exclusively for Colorado teachers throughout the year. All Colorado educators are welcome to apply for professional development scholarships. More information can be found at www.ColoradoTeachers.org.
Dedicated to the academic and personal growth of every student, PACE is the premier Colorado professional teachers’ association that advances the profession through professional development, teacher advocacy and protection, as well as promoting educational excellence, so that educators receive the respect, recognition and reward they deserve. PACE membership is only $15 per month and is open to all employees of education institutions. Learn more about PACE at www.ColoradoTeachers.org.
